Country Visit to Mauritius of the African Union Special Rapporteur on Campaign to End

Child Marriage in Africa from 6 to 8 August 2019


  1. Mrs Christine Bocoum, African Union (AU) Special Rapporteur on Ending Child Marriage carried out a country visit to Mauritius from 6 to 8 August 2019. She was accompanied by Ms Nena Thundu, Senior Policy Officer and AU Campaign to End Child Marriage (CECM) Project Coordinator and Ms Twambo Mumba, AU CECM Communications Officer.
  2. The purpose of the country visit was to see what measures are being taken by Mauritius particularly to end child marriage and also promote welfare of children in general. Moreover, the visit was an opportunity for the delegation to learn from the good practices in Mauritius in that area and which could be shared with other African countries.

  4. The delegation had a debriefing session with the Hon. Maneesh Gobin, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Human Rights and Institutional Reforms on 08 August 2019 in his office.
