Training On State Party Reporting To Treaty Bodies

The Ministry of Justice, Human Rights and Institutional Reforms, in collaboration with the Regional Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (Southern Africa) held a 3-day workshop on ‘State Party Reporting to Treaty Bodies’ at Labourdonnais Hotel from 24 to 26 April 2019.

The aim of the training was to strengthen the national capacity of Mauritius on engagement with human rights mechanisms particularly as it relates to reporting and implementing treaty body recommendations.

The 3-day workshop was attended by around 50 participants from Ministries/ Departments, National Human Rights Institutions and Non-Governmental Organisations who are members of the National Mechanism for Reporting and Follow-up (NMRF).

The Workshop was facilitated by Ms Abigail Noko, Acting Head of the Regional Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights for Southern Africa and Mr. Jean Fokwa, Human Rights Officer of the Regional Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights for Southern Africa.

Honorable Maneesh Gobin, Minister of Justice, Human Rights and Institutional Reforms, who participated at the opening ceremony of the 3-day training, highlighted that a series of recommendations to enhance human rights have been put to Mauritius following the last reviews and that the implementation of those measures in a holistic manner remains a challenge and all stakeholders need to work as a team and engage productively with each other to live up to our obligations. He affirmed that the training would strengthen the capacity of NMRF members to have a holistic approach to the whole system and situate their crucial role in the mechanism.

The workshop is one among a series of training which have been have been planned for NMRF members.
