Awareness Session on Human Rights for Senior Chief Executives and Permanent Secretaries

The Ministry of Justice, Human Rights and Institutional Reforms, in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission, has organised a half day awareness session on Human Rights for Senior Chief Executives and Permanent Secretaries of Ministries at Le Hennessy Park Hotel, Ebene, on Saturday 04 May 2019 from 09.00 hours to 12.30 hours.

 

The aim of the training was to promote awareness of the State obligations under the various international instruments within the Head of Ministries and Departments and ensure that the best conditions are put in place in Ministries and Departments for compliance therewith.

 

The session which was attended by around 35 Senior Officials was facilitated by Mr Dheerujlall SEETULSING, Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission.

Honorable Maneesh Gobin, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Human Rights and Institutional Reforms, who participated at the opening ceremony of the session, highlighted the high commitment required from the Head of the Ministries and Departments, be it for the purpose of providing inputs for fulfilling reporting obligations, self-assessment, policy review or implementation of the recommendations from international and regional human rights mechanisms.  He emphasized on the individual and collective role of the Ministries and Departments in the national human rights protection system and appealed for an accrued coordination and engagement within the Ministries and Departments.
