World Humanitarian Day 2021
World Humanitarian Day 2021 had as theme
"Climate emergency and its impacts on the most vulnerable people"
and the following activities were organised by the various International Humanitarian Law Committee of Mauritius:
a) a poster on the theme was produced in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change. Same was displayed digitally at the Municipal Council of Port Louis and distributed to all Ministries and Departments, Community Centres, Social Welfare Centres, Women Empowerment Centres, Hospitals, Police Stations, Citizen Advice Bureaus, Social Security Offices and other relevant stakeholders;
b) a message of the Hon. Alan Ganoo, Minister of Land Transport and Light Rail and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade was disseminated to all GES users;
c) a half-day awareness campaign with 20 Managers of Residential Care Homes from both private and public sectors was organised by the Ministry of Local Government and Disaster Risk Management and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre (NDRRMC) in collaboration with the Human Rights Division.
The targeted Care Homes were located in flood prone areas such as Cité La Cure, Roche Bois and Gayasingh, amongst others, and resource persons were from the Meteorological Services, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Centre and the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Services.
The workshop focused on climate emergency, precautionary measures, how the National Emergency Operations Command operates and the steps to be taken in cases of emergency.
d) a radio talk on the theme was organised and broadcasted on MBC Radio Programme, Le Mag, Kool FM and Facebook Live with the participation of Officers the NDRRMC and the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change.
