World Humanitarian Day 2020
The World Humanitarian Day is commemorated on 19 August of each year.
The theme for 2020 was
“A tribute to aid workers on the front lines" and several activities were held to organised the Day,
A highlight of the activities organised by various stakeholders of the International Humanitarian Law Committee of Mauritius is as follows:

a) this Division carried out a distribution of food and blankets to the homeless, on 19 August 2020, in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity.The Honourable F. Jeewa-Daureeawoo, GCSK, Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity and the Honourable N. Bodha GCSK, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade addressed the audience for the occasion.The activity was successfully carried out with the involvement of a hundred homeless persons in the region of Port Louis;
b) this Division in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government and Disaster Risk Management organised Roving Exhibitions of posters showcasing volunteers at work at Salle de Fête, Beau Bassin and the Municipal Council of Port Louis.
- c) the Human Rights Division in collaboration with the Police Department together with the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service and the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity produced a video to showcase their contribution during confinement period. Same was broadcasted on National TV for awareness purposes;
d) the Mauritius Red Cross Society in collaboration with the Blood Donors Association organised a mega blood donation activity at the Municipal Council of Port Louis; and
- e) the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education, Science and Technology also carried out essay competitions, dramas, drawing competitions and elocution contests at primary and secondary levels.
